I don't garden because I rent, I too would adopt alot of animals.  Right now I have 4 cats (almost the crazy cat lady)! Ha Ha.  As for the vegi lifestyle, I just think in general all meat is unhealthy these days, and I really don't even like it.  I don't have kids, I see you do. I'd be happy to help you try new none meat alternatives so just ask!
