Pure & Simple Garam Masala

From Episode 6: "India"

Toast the following whole spices:

  • ½ tsp. yellow mustard seed
  • ½ tsp. black mustard seed
  • 1 tsp. fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp. black cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp. coriander
  • 5-8 cardamom pods
  • 1 tsp. Chili powder
  • 1 tsp. Ginger powder
  • 1 tbs. turmeric

To toast the whole spices, place them in a pan over medium heat and toast until they are browned and fragrant. Keep the spices moving while they heat. Then place the toasted spices into a coffee grinder, blend until smooth. Add the powdered spices and give one more bled, incorporating them with the others.

This message is to Marianne........ It is quit  apparent that  you think "Garam Masala" is a dish by your comment. It is a spice seasoning that comes in a regular spice jar and looks like cumin. My question to you now is......."How do you supposeit can be made to "look good"? It is a very good spice that can be used in alot of indian dishes as well as vegan and alkalizing dishes. Might want to do your homework the next time you make a comment!!!
