Oprah is planning an upcoming show about global warming, according to our friends at Treehugger. The Oprah Winfrey Show site poses questions like, "Are you worried about global warming?" and "Is your family worried about global warming?" to those who want to appear on the show. As a result of the upcoming episode, suburban mothers across the nation may end up dedicated to reforestation and paper conservation, thus finally lending themselves an excuse not to read every book the media goddess recommends.
The NRDC has teamed up with the popular punk band Green Day to create a new website that puts a focus on actions fans of all ages can take to push for legislation that protects the environment and fights climate change. Green Day's last album, American Idiot—which included the hit tracks "American Idiot" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"—has been followed with a cover of a Scottish punk song called "The Saints Are Coming." It remains unclear whether the more optimistic title was inspired by the band's work with the environmental group, or the newer song refers to a global warming-induced apocalypse.
The Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wedding in a town outside Rome, Italy, was attended by scores of celebrities, and not many of them were in the mood to fly commercial flights—preferring instead extremely un-eco-efficient private planes. Among those who arrived on their own planes were Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, while Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Brooke Shields, Cameron Crowe, and others shared a private jet chartered by the bride and groom. However, sources report that not only did J. Lo arrive in fur, she also had her personal hairdresser fly separately. Her fans responded to criticism from environmentalists by saying that although many stars are going green, J. Lo is still Jenny from the block.
Neil Cavuto, host of "Your World with Neil Cavuto," has expressed his displeasure with the animated film Happy Feet, starring Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, and many more. Cavuto says that the family movie, which tells the story of a penguin who cannot sing but can tap dance ferociously, is like "an animated Inconvenient Truth." Apparently, Cavuto was one of the few viewers of the documentary that noticed the Al Gore/Savion Glover Busby-Berkeley-style musical number on a melting ice cap.
