The Green Room: Martha Stewart Hugs Trees
Posted by Joshua W. Jackson on October 6, 2006 - 7:59am.

This week home and style guru Martha Stewart is doing a "Going Green" series on her show. Wednesday she hosted Treehugger's Simran Sethi on a segment about flooring options. If jailbird Stewart seemed nervous, it probably wasn't that she was uncomfortable with sustainability; she also had Mr. T, a former military policeman, on the show that day.

Ted Danson, Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hanks, and others have taken an active role in fighting for the air and water quality in their Malibu community. However, according to an ongoing investigation, residents of the town such as those stars could be responsible for fecal contamination of surrounding waters via leaky septic systems. Analysists say that this may be the first time that the crap the entertainment industry produces actually poses a serious health risk.

Our friends at Ecorazzi have discovered that Gwyneth Paltrow, noted yoga practitioner, is a tremendous fan of Earth Mama Angel Baby's eco-friendly organic stretch oil, which she presumably used while she was carrying her baby daughter Apple. Despite her love of the planet, Paltrow has not specified whether her daughter's name refers to an organic or conventionally-grown piece of fruit.

Barbara Streisand is embarking on a tour that will raise money for a variety of charities, including one million dollars for Bill Clinton's Climate Change Initiative. Rumor has it that Streisand has also offered to shield melting polar ice caps from the sun with the shadow of her ego.

Great use for an huge ego! Here's to hoping it only gets bigger (and she keeps doing the good work)!

Martha Keep Up the Good Work

It is nice to see that see is putting her Ego to a great cause and made the Going Green segment a part of her shows all week long. Kudos to her!!! Instead of bashing her and all the others mentioned maybe we should just be focused on the good things they do - of course they could do nothing at all too - Give it Up!!

To laugh:
by telbel on October 6, 2006 - 1:15pm
" is a virtue, is a soul-expanding delight that shortens time. Every laugh you manage cuts short the miles and hours and days of drudgery. You can ascend the physical body on laughter. Let a sense of humor give you balance, perspective, poise and patience. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Learn to laugh at yourself and go upward."

Terrible writing

If you're trying to be amusing - you fail. If you're trying to be informative - fail again. If you are trying to justify the time I wasted in reading this - I should bill you. I know two of the people you so nastily slam....and let me assure you, you're waaaaaaaay off base. What a pity you use such a nice forum for such childish and small comments.

Get a life.

If you're trying to pretend your time is important enough to waste--you fail.

How sad. For you. Please get therapy, or even surgery to locate your sense of humor.

Mr. T

I met Mr. T three years ago at a popular apple orchard in upstate NY.  Where, for whatever reason, he was holding a press junket and signing autographs.

A gas hog it is but note that the suburban is of the new breed which runs on ethinol whicn is unlike all of the 4X4's out on the road right now. It amazes me how so many people have these huge trucks - for what reason, it certainly is not for the environment!

Hooray for Martha!

Good for Martha Stewart - she cares for the environment and makes her corner of the world pretty  - and helps others do the same (even if we don't have the paid help she has).  Your newsletter makes me laugh out loud. Keep up the good work!

Green is a good thing

I was able to watch several of these episodes. Pretty darn good actually. Considering Martha's been reycling/reusing stuff on her show for a long time it's good to see her take another step forward into the green.
