from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With high oil prices, global warming and other environmental problems on the horizon, venture capitalists are increasingly putting their money behind next-generation companies whose products reduce energy consumption and help the environment.

Green pocketbooks

_green_technology_revolution...

The future looks particularly "green" to people with deep pocketbooks.  This article that LIME featured above details what one venture capitalist thinks the next wave is going to be; greentech.   I think it is great to see people getting involved in pursuing other means that are eco-friendly even if it is profit based.  We all are going to reap the benefits eventually.

Live free or die

Its amazing that it takes the real threat of enviornmental doom and destruction (global warming)  to change the world in a positive way,  but I will certainly take it.  Greentech (great wording Vicki!)  is truly taking hold as well as in my opinion a higher conscious awakening in more people and I am sure loving that!  Ecotopia is going to be the next big thing!

ecotopia-who knew
by Vicki_R on February 23, 2007 - 9:39am
I just googled ecotopia and was fascinated to read about it.  I had never heard of the term and was surprised to find that there was a book written about 15 years ago.  Did you happen to read it?  http://www.strangewords.com/archive/ecotopia.html.  This was a review of the book and is pretty good.  I agree that it sometimes takes "doom and gloom" as you put it to awaken people and governments to do something.  I love reading the paper each day and seeing more articles on what countries and communities are doing.  Awareness is the key!!! P.S. I read about the term "greentech" and can't take credit, but it is cool.

Ecotopia-the book
by neilg61 on February 23, 2007 - 3:14pm
Yes,  I not only read the book Ecotopia 15 years ago but the author,  Ernest Callenback came to my university to speak.  I went to Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA which is nestled in the beautiful redwood forest on the North coast of California.  It is one of the best schools in the country for Enviornmental science and Natural resource management. This area boasts some of the largest bio-diversity with thousands of specis of plants that abound naturally.  This area has been a hotbed  of environmentalism for many years with  strong political activisim on behalf of the environment , and placing a high value on  quality of life through preserving and enjoying the natural environment and personal growth. Also,  the very first food co-op in the United States was here in Arcata, CA.  We actually felt that the first ecotopia was Humboldt county.  So you can sense my excitement when I discovered the lime channel and the green revoultion coming to the forefront!

change in all forms
by Vicki_R on February 23, 2007 - 8:08pm
We are trying to bring awareness about how we can all live a healthy life and have fun while doing it.  I have learned so much from postings like yours and continue to keep learning.  But change can occur in all forms.  If venture capitalists can make a difference and help to finance companies that can ultimately help us I am all for it.  Change doesn't always have to come from with doing without.  Sometimes we can have our cake and eat it too.
