Mesh or Canvas?

The only way to solve the eternal paper or plastic question is to tote along reusable bags. So now the question is: Mesh or canvas? Something else entirely?

Paper bags don't take 500 years to decompose. Plastic bags don't result in deforestation. What's the best option? B.Y.O.B.
