Over the summer at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, I stumbled on a booth of mini-paintings by 33-year-old, North Carolina-based Laura Lashley. There were happy elephants, bears in Speedos, psychedelic mushrooms, all done with a modern, retro-animation sensibility: sort of Peter Max meets Keith Haring meets Hello Kitty. Cute encounters edgy.
