The What the Bleep Do We Know!? phenomenon just won't go away. Most people enjoy it, and for the most part I do too. LIME's Balance editor has already sung its praises, but with the remixed sequel out now in some cities I feel compelled by civic duty to chime in and explain what the bleep is wrong with the original flick (and what the remake gets right).
Just this week I watched Nova’s overly produced documentary on string theory, The Elegent Universe, thinking that I should finally try to grok the coolest thing in quantum theory since Schr?ger’s Cat and parallel universes. But New Scientist reports the theory is a bit tangled these days:
A recent San Antonio Eyewitness news story reports that researchers at the University of North Texas are exploring the near death experience (NDE) and its unique perspective on consciouness, “whether it’s real, whether it’s in the mind, or whether it matters.” An extended report is also featured on video.
There’s a great little article in last week’s New York Times, Down For The Count which overviews recent scientific research on sleep.
“Sleep has attracted a tremendous amount of attention in science, but we really don’t know what sleep is.”
Plastered to the surface of this art piece is the following quote:
“Human consciousness and cosmic consciousness are one. The field dances and waits for us to join in. It constantly folds and refolds itself, like an infinite wool blanket tumbling in a dryer at infinite speed”.
—Deepak Chopra
I stumbled upon the work of Alyce Santoro while reading her engaging and lyrical account at the Wooster Collective detailing her recent arrest —for putting a sticker on a flagpole in New York City’s East Village. (Full disclosure: I am someone who has, in times past, been involved in similar nefarious activities.)
