Clean and Sharpen Garbage Disposal

Hosted by Danny Seo, this segment explain how to clean a garbage disposal in an eco-friendly way.

Garbage disposals start to smell when food waste builds up inside of them. If ice and lemons don't get rid of your odor, use a cleaning brush or rag to scrape the rubber flaps inside the disposal. Getting rid of any remaining residue should do the trick. Also, make sure you leave your water running whenever you run the disposal—this helps wash food particles away. Other options if you don't have any lemons handy: try vinegar or baking soda.

Healthy living with a twist?
by Anonymous on April 21, 2006 - 9:51am
I am mystified by the stupidity of the Earth Day videos I have just viewed. First, the tips are sophomoric and pointless. It seems everything on these videos aims to satisfy everybody with simplistic notions of what Earth Day is all about. The ad tacked onto the tips is longer than the tip? What's up with that? And the ad is its own special treat; On the one hand you are running a video of Julia Butterfly and at the same time you say “Whether you are the type of person to hug a tree or cut it down” What the heck is that about? Is this the twist? I guess the twist means anything goes, save a rain forest or cut one down. I had to play it several times to believe what I was watching. This is truly the most disingenuous, facile crap I have seen since the Cargill commercial I saw yesterday. ps- Your “green guide” is also riddled with problems. Here are just a few I saw in 5 minutes: 1 Evergreen teas should always be used in moderation, because large amounts can be toxic. Pregnant women should not drink this tea. 2 “ 'Hummus' organic soil” Can I get tabouli with that? Did you mean humus? 3 “Look for paint with no lead” Lead paint? They stopped making lead based paint for residential use in 1978. I'd like to see you find (new) lead paint. 4 “Meat eater? Eat wild, not farm raised” What the heck is “wild” meat? Did you mean natural? Organic? Or should I hunt wild animals? Granted I only listed 4 mistakes in the “Make Earth Day every day” guide but you can be rest assured that I could list 10 more. Was this produced to fill space or really provide useful information on Earth Day?

One more offensive note..
by Anonymous on April 21, 2006 - 10:25am
In “The LIME Guide: Make it Earth Day, every day”. The laundry tip for Earth Day is “Try to dry batches of clothes one after another in the dryer. The residual heat from the first batch will carry-over to the next batch and make the drying time shorter for the next load". How about a clothes line or drying rack? What is “Green” about running a dryer? That is ridiculous!

A clothes line? Hmmmm.....Yeah, let me ask my landlord if I can put one in the hallway. A drying rack? Yeah, practical if you only do a wash with 4 pairs of socks and a t-shirt.

I live in Manhattan and I use a drying rack I bought at BBB on 6th ave. It holds an entire load and it's better for your colthing and the environment. Don't be so lazy...

They don't use dryers where they pay the real cost of energy and they manage to fit everything on a drying rack

Bzuh?

You can fit an entire load of laundry on a drying rack? My god, how big is it? Where'd you find a drying rack that size? It takes me two just to get the "do not tumble dry" clothes hung up.

That video is crazy!

"Hug a tree or chop one down"! WHAT!?, That's Earth Day from a place that cares about the environment, oh I would say... about 1 percent! I have to put a link on crookandliars.com.

Second flush of esoteric movement
by Anonymous on April 22, 2006 - 8:05am
If you need some actions or words of temporary famous people just to live a little bit healthier and save some money to use it in a different (better?) way, you probably don't understand the true value and your actions are temorary too. Depending on what some famous do next. I am not a pure "green" but often it make sense to use what they call commonsense. If you really like to change something, ancor a more environment-friendly behavior in the education of young children. Somehow I cannot get rid of the feeling this is another marketing of a second flush for the esoteric movement. A word to "filmy":Is this your private Ad site ? Your comments are more than short but never without picture.

Re: my clothing rack

You are an odd duck, but since you asked, the PVC rack is not the one I purchased. I purchased the "compact laundry drying rack that folds flat so it can easily be stored under a bed, in a closet or even behind a door. It still takes up very little space yet provides 18 feet of drying space for lots of clothes. Constructed of 100% heavy-duty steel with steel dowels. Measures 22 3/4" W x 14 3/4" D x 14" H The link I would direct you to is this one

Will you two just get a room already? You can hang your clothes on the dryer racks.
