Alba Botanica's Clear Enzyme Deodorant

O, my odiferous summers. I'm not ashamed to say that when the Fahrenheit hits the big numbers, I stink. A deep, rotund funk, not unlike overcooked espresso, sneaks from my pits even if I've spent the day on the couch, my only exertions spent clicking from Date My Mom to West Wing reruns. In trying to steer clear of sinister sticks and sprays – the Dry Ideas, the Spices Old and new – all of which contain aluminum compounds that could cause breast cancer or Alzheimer's. I've tried a number of deodorants, including those crazy crystals, but their repellant properties lasted well under acceptable durations. Some of the more environment-friendly brands, frankly, just didn't work. Ever since I've gone organic, I'd been unable to find a deodorant that actually deodorizes, one that doesn't make me smell even worse, or like I spend my days bottling patchouli oil at a nonprofit ashram. Luckily, after a long search, I've found a terrific pit de-stinker: Alba Botanica's Clear Enzyme with tea tree oil.

Alba's Clear Enzyme doesn't have much of a discernable scent – unlike the sandalwood and ocean breeze flavors that too many deodorants advertise. Without getting too oenophilic, the bouquet is astringent, a wee bit citric, but not at all prominent. And while it's not technically an antiperspirant, the Alba stick contains baking soda, which helps keep the area in question somewhat moisture free, and – just like in your fridge – it also absorbs odors. And the tea tree oil and peppermint oils have antibacterial properties – meaning they make living in your pits the pits for B.O. bacteria. The Alba lasts a full day, doesn't smell like cannabis, and is free of (allegedly) killer ingredients. Smells like a winner to me.

Alba Botanica's Clear Enzyme Deodorant with Tea Tree Oil

Cost: $5.95

what about CRYSTAL body deodorant? It is Paraben free and no aluminium chlorohydrate. I have used for over a year and it works. It is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, non-sticky and contains purified water, mineral salts, potassium alum, cellulose. Please let me know, is it safe?

Tea tree oil is god's gift

Don't you think? Thanks for a great recommendation. I might hold a deodorant duel with my regular, Tom's of Maine unscented.

Allergic to Tea Tree
by Anonymous on June 9, 2006 - 6:13pm
It may be god's gift to you, but I'm allergic to Tea Tree oil. It's really a downer because of it's benefits for one, but most of all for me because it's in almost any soap or cool organic or natural ointment contraption I want to use. For me, even facial cleansers with Tea Tree makes my skin itch and burn up like my face is a big itchy boil. And oh, when a little bit gets in my eyes... AAHHHHHHH:) Plus, being such a fan of natural oils for healing and health benefits, this gets me going on why I'm allergic to this one of god's many gifts. Could I be a sufferer of preservatives, pestacides and hormones in such away that I became allergic to what's good for me? I just wonder. Or did I abuse the use of the precious oil in a past life? :) I found out I was allergic to Tea Tree when I was a member of Melaluca and here I'm itching like a mofo when I was trying to go al naturale:) Left that club behind years ago due to that. Loved those Access Bars. Anyway. Oh well. I'm not allergic to the sun and seem to be able to live in LA's horrible air with out any breathing or allergy issues, so I'm forever grateful. It's funny because Tea Tree is the only thing known to me that I'm allergic too! Well that and soulmates:( PEace out. Mike in LA.

Alba products rock...

...but I'll stick to the shave products. This product does not sound like something I'd like. I'm more of a Dove girl on this item...but Alba shave products rule!!

Wake-up call for Phil

Philip, I'm being serious here. If your pits stink so bad even on a day spent in front of the tube, you may need to see a doctor. (I'm not tryin' to be mean; I just want to help.) Plus, you probably shouldn't be spending entire days in front of the tube, anyway. I mean, Date My Mom? C'mon, that's one of MTV's most lamely-scripted and poorly-acted faux-reality shows. You need to get out and experience real reality.

Tried it -- not good
by Anonymous on June 18, 2006 - 12:49pm
Aware of all the dangers of wearing anti-persperants, I decided to give Alba deodrant a try. Usually two swipes of Dove works for me all day - even when I do Yoga and Tae Kwon Do. I also use Alba body wash in Lavendar scent -- wonderful! Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the Alba deodrant. After about 3 hours, I began to smell like a horse! I was out and couldn't get home to "refresh" or put on a different deodrant! I threw it away! Thanks, but I'll stick to Dove.

Interesting!

I may have to give this product a try. I am allergic to all other kinds of deodorant/antipersperants, even Tom's of Maine. I have tried the crystals, but didn't really like that. Thanks for the idea!

I've been using this since this article came out and I am happy to report that it actually works. And, believe me, it had to cover more than the scent of sugar and spice!

A suggestion
by Anonymous on August 9, 2006 - 9:34am

A lady at a health food store mentioned to me that a person may have to do a cleanse, specifically a liver cleanse. I have the same problem, where the deoderant didn't seem to last once I was out in the heat or working out. The odor is  the toxins that are leaving your body as you perspire. Something to think about. I am starting a liver cleanse myself, and will let people know if this works.

Still Searching
by Anonymous on August 14, 2006 - 11:59pm
I got the trial size of this deoderant and it seemed to work the first few days. But I think i must not have been doing anything strenous those days because it stopped working after that and i had to toss it. So i continue searching for a natural deoderant that actually works for me and in the meantime settle for just avoiding anti-persprants.

An organic deodorant that works
by erinely on November 1, 2006 - 9:53pm

Here's another option for a deodorant that actually works and is not full of chemicals, this is not an antipersperant.

 Miessence Organics

Aroma Free Deodorant:

complete ingredients list:

Ingredients
Purified water (aqua), organic aloe vera (aloe barbadensis) leaf juice, sodium bicarbonate, non-gmo xanthan gum. 89% Organic Product.

Testimonial from one of my customers

I have used Miessence aroma free deoderant for the past 8 months.  It is the best deoderant I have used for several reasons:  no residue left on clothes, aroma free including on clothes, longlasting protection, and economical - despite 8 months use, I still have almost half a bottle left of 70ml.  I would certainly buy this product again and recommend it highly.
