Like many of you, I've been happy to feed my addiction to Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm. I've used it faithfully since before it was readily available at Walgreen's and I have always been delighted with other Burt's Products I've tried. My dream medicine cabinet has Burt's face peeking out from every product. So when I was pregnant with my daughter I was excited to find that Burt's Bees has an entire Baby Bee line, with excellent alternatives to harsh chemical and petroleum based products. But not only is Burt concerned about your skin, his company is a true money-where-his-mouth-is operation. From his humble bee-keeping beginnings making candles in an abandoned school house in Maine to the huge corporate enterprise Burt's Bees has become, Burt has used natural ingredients, fair labor practices, environmentally sound business practices, and is always looking for more ways to make a difference with the success that the company continues to have.

So I'm happy to report the Baby Bee line is just as lovely as you'd hope. With natural ingredients like apricot and wheat germ oil, buttermilk powder, and of course beeswax and honey, the products are very gentle for your little bee, but a very powerful addition to your baby's medicine chest. Luckily, the Burt's Bees Baby Bee Getting Started Kit is a terrific little sample pack of many of the products -- the kit contents vary, so check to make sure you're getting what you wanted to try. The samples will last long enough for you to decide what works for you and your newbie, and anything she can't use will certainly find its way to your shelf, and you'll smell sweet and fresh too!

I swear by the Diaper Ointment (2 oz $7.50), my daughter rarely got irritation from being wet (I credit dioxin-free diapers, but whenever she was teething she got a terrible, itchy rash. I tried other zinc based creams, but Burt's, with vitamins A and E, sweet almond oil and beeswax is the only one that cleared her up overnight.

The Shampoo Bar (3.5 oz. $6.00) is a great idea when you're trying to bathe a squirmy one - no bottles to drop or caps to open. It's mild and silky and leaves Lil' G's fine hair lightly scented and tangle free. Now that she is a "big girl" at 2 ½ she likes to do things herself, and the Shampoo Bar makes that much less messy too.

Remember, tiny babies don't need too much bathing, and they aren't ready for fragrances and "product." Plus it's very nice and comforting to smell what your new baby actually smells like, sweet and milky, earthy and warm. But it's good to have an arsenal of natural products on hand like Dusting Powder ($6.00) for heat rash, Lil' G's signature scent Apricot Baby Oil ($8.00) for dry skin or cradle cap and Buttermilk Bath for soothing and mild cleansing.
