Protestors the world over – some 100,000 strong – pounded the pavement demanding federal action on climate change in over 30 countries last Saturday. Tens of thousands of marchers, including Indian elders representing Inuit cultures and activists sporting polar bear costumes, were at large in Montreal, where officials from more than 180 countries are convening at a U.N. climate conference to discuss Kyoto protocol targets, and future climate strategy.

Among the marchers in Montreal was Canada's Environment Minister Stephane Dion, the conference’s mistress of ceremonies, who said, “Now we need to improve Kyoto, the next week will be very crucial.” Calls for climate action were heard in nations as diverse as Japan, France, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Brazil. Local protests were also planned in Boston, Washington D.C. and New Orleans. To join a virtual march against global warming, visit StopGlobalWarming.com.
