Green Gifts for Everybody You Know... and a Few People You Don't

Pet Lover
By Corey Binns

Know anyone whose animals are definitely part of the family? Whether they are at the dog park every night, cuddling up with a kitty, or teaching their parrot some new words, these people love their pets. But just how many Labrador calendars and whimsical cat mugs can a person have? Give something that will make owners and pets happy without destroying the planet they both love.

See Spot Catch!
Playful dogs are experts at encouraging their best friends to get off the couch, smell the roses, and get some exercise. Give the pair one more reason to get out into the great outdoors, a Frisbee designed especially for fetch. After years of wear and tear from good fun, the ZOOM Flyer can be returned to Planet Dog where it'll be recycled into a toy for another healthy life full of fun and games.

Gift: Orbee-Tuff ZOOM Flyer
Cost: $13
Where to Buy: Planet Dog

Animal Instincts
More and more pet owners are now taking unconventional medicinal methods to nurse their pets, using complementary therapies like herbs, supplements, and acupuncture. To guide pet lovers through the complicated world of alternative medicine for animals, The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care helps owners them make well-informed decisions about the health and care of their dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits.

Gift: The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care by C.J. Puotinen
Cost: $16 to $22
Where to Buy: Amazon, Only Natural Pet Store, Dogwise

Easy Clean Up
To combat messes left by their favorite animals, pet owners should have a spray bottle of Seventh Generation's non-toxic All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner in their clean-up crew. The magic potion won't leave behind strong smells, fumes, or harmful chemicals when the naughty pets return to their favorite spot. Plus, pet lovers will appreciate Seventh Generation's policy not to test products on animals.

Gift: Seventh Generation's non-toxic All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner
Cost: $5.49

Go-on-the-Go
The green pet toilet holds a square patch of sod or synthetic grass where Fido can pee and poop at home in peace, providing an easy clean up. For people who share small living quarters with their pets, are too busy to take regular walks, or like to keep their yard poop-free, this small grassy spot does the job and eliminates the waste of disposable pads. Finicky cats prefer going on the grass too, according to a PETaPOTTY testimony, which is great news for people who need a kitty litter substitute, such as pregnant women and allergy sufferers.

Gift: PETaPOTTY
Cost: $200 to $290
Where to Buy: PETaPOTTY

Love the Green Gift Guide
by IanTurvill on December 4, 2006 - 10:54pm

I love your online green gift guide "Giving Gone Green".

In fact, I love it so much, I've added it as the featured article on my blog at: http://healthygreenblog.typepad.com.

As I noted in my posting, what is particularly appealing about your collection of green gifts is that they have segmented it according to the recipient's potential attitudes towards "things green".

Where else could one find in a single place gifts for the "Eco-Slacker", "The Style Maven", or "The Foodie", plus many others?

Nice job, Lime Team.

If you're into natural and alternative fiber clothing, check out Doie Designs (www.doiedesigns.com) fabulous collection of silk and bamboo women's wear. It's a new company, but quickly growing. The clothes are high quality, stylish and comfortable, plus they won't break your budget. I've been surprised by the absence of mention in all the press surrounding green apparel companies this year! The designer was actually featured on Lime.com several months ago

Happy holidays,

Has anyone tried one of these? I saw this on HGTV awhile ago and have really really wanted one. I am a poor social worker though, so I have been hesitant to spend that much money. Anyone have experience using one of these?

Never too late to be a novice
by feebe3 on September 8, 2007 - 2:32pm
I've just started recycling with all of my heart, but I'm finding it a bit difficult. My local community's recycling flyer has a lot of items missing from it that I though were recyclable. Anyone know of a really good book or article on this website that will help kick-start my all-over the home recycling efforts?

I love the guide and I had
by johannabartley on December 15, 2008 - 9:31am
I love the guide and I had no idea there are so many green practical things. There should be more baby gifts in there as children should learn from a small age that we need to take care of mother nature.

These would make great promotional products for special events, you don't always go for pens and tshirts because people are always interested in challenging new desings. This article just gave me a great idea.
