Sometimes you read a headline that really throws you. Like this one: "Hunters and Fisherman Want Action on Global Warming." Action? Do they want to bet on it? Are the hunters and fisherman excited by global warming – a warmer planet means more bikinis? That kind of action?

Not quite. Of a recently polled group of self-proclaimed outdoorsman, 76 percent believe global warming is happening, 71 percent believe it will cause problems for their favorite pastimes, hunting and fishing – and they want something done about it. Seventy-eight percent see the solution in energy conservation, renewable resources, and fuel-efficient vehicles, whereas only 15 percent think we should drill for more oil and natural gas. The nationwide poll of 1,031 hunters and anglers was conducted by Responsive Management of Harrisonburg, Virginia for the National Wildlife Federation.

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised – after all, more and more Americans are getting hip to climate change. And there are all those enviro-friendly outdoorsy groups like Trout Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited. Yet this poll could represent something bigger: its respondents voted for George W. in the 2004 election by a margin of 2-to-1, and half consider themselves evangelical Christians.

More of the poll's highlights:

- The typical survey respondent was male, middle-aged and lived in a small town or rural setting.

- About two-thirds of those surveyed said they would favor a presidential candidate who supports strong laws and immediate action to address global warming. And 75 percent agreed that "Congress should pass legislation that sets a clear national goal for reducing global warming pollution with mandatory timelines because industry has already had enough time to clean up voluntarily."

The Sky is Falling!

Could it be possible that Climate Change is a NATURAL phenomenon? We are currently in the warmest period between Ice Ages. You can see that CO2 levels rise and fall as Ice Ages occur. Could it be that Temperature is the Cause and CO2 levels are the Effect? Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vostok_420ky_4curves_insolation.jpg Kind of wild that Both CO2 and CH4 levels increase as Temperature increases or is it? Both CO2 and CH4 (Methane) are more soluble in water than O2 and N2 which make up 99% of our atmosphere. As water temperature rises the ability to retain gases goes down. Since larger concentrations of CO2 and CH4 are available you will see a slight increase in the percentage of CO2 and CH4 in the atmosphere. Parts per million for CO2 and parts per Billion for CH4. Ice Ages and Warm Periods are Natural. Today we see CO2 levels at 380 ppm, 100 ppm higher than pre-industrial revolution at 280 ppm. At the height of the last Ice Age CO2 levels were at 180 ppm and we had a temperature difference of -8C. Do we see a +8C temperature difference today than from 1800? No. We see that we have fluctuated a total of 1C over the last 10,000 years http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Holocene_Temperature_Variations.png . While it is very important that we take care of our environment, it is equally important that we address problems that are REAL. Human contribution to CO2 levels is around 2.5 Gigatons of CO2 per year while Natural occurring CO2 is produced at around 210 Gigatons per year. If you want attention keep screaming "The Sky is Falling", if you want to make a difference take up another cause. Steve A Morris Atlanta, GA

Its just propaganda

Maybe people are believing the propaganda about the global warming farce. Besides the constant drone from the so-called scientific elite, politicians and movie stars, a news organization asks viewers to send videos about their problems with the so-called global warming, in effect cast unproven blame to this take-over cause. Natural or manmade, it's happening
by Anonymous on July 28, 2006 - 4:00pm
The argument about whether global warming is natural or manmade is like standing inside a burning house arguing about who started it. It doesn't matter, You have to put the fire out. Yes the 10 hottest years on record, have been within the last 14, and 2005 is so far the hottest on record. Glaciers are melting. Already many ocean nations are having to evacuate their islands because of the rise of the oceans. We can't wait until there are a hundred thousand refugees until we do something about it. Of course many still beleive the world is flat and the sun goes around the earth, and no matter what facts you show them, there is no changing their minds. R. L. Morris Farmington, NM
