Earth Day: Back Away from the Laptop

You still here? It's Saturday morning, it's Earth Day, and you're sitting at your computer? Draining the grid? Don't you know that the Internet begins with coal?

Sorry, a little Earth Day humor: "The Internet Begins with Coal" was the title of a debunked 1999 study, funded by the coal industry, that called for major U.S. investment in electric power – fueled by burning coal, of course – to feed the allegedly enormous future demand the Internet would place on the grid.

But seriously, today is no day to be spent inside, obsessing over peak oil predictions and carbon market flux.

Take an energy vacation. Turn off your computer, unplug your appliances, ditch the AC, leave the car keys at home and get out into the (still-green) world. Ride your bike, recycle your old VCR, and take part in some groovy Earth Day events.

Get out in your garden and build a compost pile (yay worms!). Eat some organic greens.

Really. LIME loves you, but we'll be here when you get back. Go on now.
