Earth As Art

Ever wondered what it’s like to view Earth through the eyes of a satellite? You can do just that at Earth As Art, a web site created by NASA that compiles photos taken in recent years from the Landsat 7 and Terra satellites. Spanning from the fjords of Iceland to the craters of Australia, the richly colored images remind you that just as fact can be stranger than fiction, natural phenomena can be more stunning than any manmade work of art.

Click on a map of the world and you can view the archive of natural phenomena by continent—river deltas that look like marbled paper, desert scapes that look like exquisitely blown glass, and glacial masses that look like enameled jewels. It’s inspiring enough to make you go out and buy a large-format printer to transform the etherial planetary portraits into wallpaper.

These images are truly phenomenal! Great find. I wonder if they have poster size versions.
