LIME recently completed a survey about celebrities known for their support of healthy, green, and wellness causes, and about those in the public eye who've garnered headlines for their less than healthy lifestyles. While some of the results may be expected, others are quite surprising.
Britney Spears most needs to Live the Change and take steps to living a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. Of the troubled celebrities listed in LIME's survey, Britney topped the list with a whopping 81% saying she needs to "live the change." In the eyes of Americans, Lindsay Lohan (14%) has made great progress in living a healthier and more balanced lifestyle, while a few Americans feel that Eminem (4%) or Mischa Barton (1%) need to start making some changes.
Oprah is the "Queen of Healthy Living," as she tops the list (at 47%) on the question of which celebs have most helped Americans re-evaluate their own views on the importance of living a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. Lance Armstrong comes in at a healthy second with 37%, and Ozzy Osbourne (8%) and Tyra Banks (8%) are tied at the bottom of the list.
79% of Americans chose Al Gore as the celebrity who they feel has most influenced their views on the importance of living a greener life. Robert Redford (11%), Leonardo DiCaprio (6%) and Susan Sarandon (4%) ranked surprisingly low.
Bono is #1 when it comes to raising awareness for his cause (AIDS). He brought in nearly half the votes (48%) on who has made the greatest positive impact on raising social-consciousness about their cause. Angelina Jolie came in second (25%) with her work with the UNHCR [1], overshadowing the efforts almost two-fold of Ben & Jerry (16%) for Saving the Planet, and Harry Connick, Jr (11%) for Hurricane Katrina relief.
Julia Roberts came in as the #1 celebrity who had the most "organically" grown body - no additives or nips and tucks! Of the celebs listed in LIME's survey, it seems that Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to get some tips from Julia Roberts on how to achieve an organically grown body. It's certainly not easy being "all natural" when you're in the public's eye - even Madonna surprisingly only drew in 17%, with Arnold trailing behind at 12%, and Adrian Grenier with only 3%.
44% of respondants chose Cameron Diaz as the ideal yoga [1] partner, more than double the folks who would want to partner with Jada Pinkett Smith (22%), L.L. Cool J (18%), and Mark Wahlberg (17%).
Americans want to spend a day doing green things like recycling most with Salma Hayek (37%) and Brad Pitt (30%), while Sting (19%) and Daryl Hannah (13%) would have less fans sifting through the dumpsters with them on recycling-with-the-rich-and-famous day.
About the survey: This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive® via its QuickQuerySM online omnibus service on behalf of Live Balance Media, LLC between March 13-15, 2007 among 2,473 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for region, age within gender, education, household income and race/ethnicity were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.
With a pure probability sample of 2,473 one could say with a ninety-five percent probability that the overall results would have a sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points. Sampling error for data based on sub-samples would be higher and may vary. However, that does not take other sources of error into account. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
Harris Interactive was responsible for collecting and weighting the online data. Life Balance Media, LLC is responsible for analysis and reporting of the data.
