After reading the LIME list of what to buy, I too buy certain foods, especially for my children. Milk, apples, strawberries, eggs, and now recently peanut butter are organic staples in our house. I don't mind spending the money on my boys, but as usual, my husband and I take a back seat when it comes to organic food.
Our bodies come first. Without a healthy body, what is life? We are exposed to 73,000 chemicals DAILY! More in one day than our grandparents were exposed to in their lifetime. Think about it. As you grow older, your elimination system is more compromised and needs help. You are what you eat.
With all the new choices to buy organic products that are rated by the government as organic, it just makes me wonder whether we can trust what we see. I heard that it takes up to seven years for farmland to be rid of all the toxins that were put into it before it can be rated as organic.
Organics come first. There is nothing in my household that isn't organic or recycled. Every Tuesday I have a delivery of organic eggs, sprouted seeds, vegetables and fruit and even xtra fruit. I cook for 4 adults and my grandaughter who is 18 months old and brought up on organic food. The box scheme is great and I pay about £40 weekly for the delivery. I don't find organic food more expensive than non-organic, as once you know where to shop it does not make that much of a difference. My body and Health (as well as that of my family) are very important to me and I would rather go without something else than going back to having non-organics. Your body will give back to you what you put into it!!
Since I am on a tight budget its hard to buy organic regularly, because its so expensive here. We have cut out a lot, like pre packaged meals, sodas, fried foods..etc, so I buy it as often as I can, however, I do buy organic eggs and milk and other dairy on a regular basis, the staples in our house, and its hard to have fresh fruits and vegetables year around, so I look forward to going to the Farmers Market each summer and stock up. I hope to one day become fully organic, vegetarian and to grow my own vegetables. Yes, it does taste sooooo much better!
Given the choice between organic and non-organic, if the prices are competitive, I'll choose organic. But often I find the prices for organic products are so far above the non-organic versions as to be prohibitive.
I have a share at a local organic farm, You can also share a share...... :) But that would depend on where you live. We just eat whatever fruits and veggies are in season, which is better for you anyway.
You can also find a lot of organic food AND beauty/hygiene products for way less at discount grocery stores, if there are any in your area!!!!

I grow and sell fresh and organic because it's healthier and I want to give people healthier products. That's my business. I do question when produce shipped from a long distance away, if the freshness and nutritional value are lost, whether organic or not.
Back in the70's I got into organic gardening we my folk bought the farm. It was something new back then. My Dad had a 1\2 acer garden. He did not like vegetables but when he started growing them he began to like them. I introduced my family to new things like Jurselem Artichokes and red kale. When I left home I could not fine a good supply of organic vegetables. Now that I am approaching part B of life I have returned to mostly organic. I have my own chicken and have a garden. My chickens and ducks are part of my Earth friendly plan of recycle.
OK, I am a total WalMart hater. However, in an effort to clean up their act, Walmart has recently begun carrying organics! Hurray for Walmart! I shopped their organic selections for the first time recently and was so pleasantly surprised. People, go shop for your organics at Walmart. I know what their rep has been, but you have to think of it this way - with a big dog like Walmart supporting the organic industries it can only encourage others to pick up the baton. You'll be telling Walmart and everyone else a thing or two about what people want, too. Say it with your almighty dollar! We want healthy, natural foods! And, hey, it's Walmart. So, my fellow moms, it will be less expensive. Trust me when I say that NONE of you have less money than I do (I really AM a starving artist), and I shop primarily organic. Walmart just made it easier.

Sometimes when it fits in my budget, having 5 kids money does not got far!
