A study [1] published in the Canadian Medical Journal touts ginseng [2] as an effective supplement for fighting or preventing symptoms of the common cold.

An editorial [3] in the same issue questions the researcher’s findings and challenges the overall efficacy of “natural remedies.”

The study? Funded by the manufacturer of the ginseng pill used in the research—CV Technologies [4] of Edmonton, Alberta.

The editorial? Written by Ronald B. Turner [5], a consultant to Wyeth Consumer Healthcare [6], Schering-Plough Research Institute [7], Procter & Gamble [8] among others.
