Want to keep your cat or dog fit and happy for years to come? An organic lifestyle is just as good for pets as it is for humans. More pet food companies are realizing this and their products can be found in markets featuring natural products, specialty pet stores, as well as some of the larger chain pet stores across the country. It is more expensive, but so are increased vet bills.
Feeding your pet organically is a way to ensure that your pet is eating ingredients that are hormone and antibiotic-free. If you do choose the traditional pet food route, read the labels carefully. By law, all ingredients on the package are listed in the order of the amount contained. You want to limit animal by-products, so look for labels that state beef, beef broth, and chicken liver, which are healthier than ones that indicate beef and poultry by-products.
We've all heard the warning "Don't feed your pets table food!" But that's because so many people eat poorly. If everyone in the family is eating fresh organic fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains, you'll all thrive, including Fido and Fluffy.

I have been feeding my 14 yr old lhasa only quality food for several years now, but still she was showing signs of aging, i.e. cataracts in both eyes, small tumor growths appearing on her skin, gaining weight and being very sluggish. When I relocated to Alaska this year, I could no longer afford to buy Organix and pay for the shipping which was more $$ than the food. I did some research and decided to switch her to a raw food diet. And am I ever glad that I did! I purchased a small food processor to chop the meats, veggies and fruits, adding yogurt and/or cottage cheese to the mix. It takes only a minute or two each day and I utilize the same food I purchase for myself to eat. One of her favorite fast food meals is a chunk of canned mackerel w/ yogurt and canned pumpkin mixed in. (I do not feed her raw fish due to possible parasites, but she eats beef, moose, caribou and chicken).
What have I noticed, besides the fact that she loves this way of eating? She no longer begs for food, she has lost the excess fat and is running up and down the stairs instead of sleeping all day. Her breath is fresh without any doggie smell..and her teeth are sparkling clean. Her stools are firm and small and do not smell either. Amazing as it sounds, her eyes, which only 3 months ago were covered w/ a thin milky film (from age I was told) are now clear and as beautifully brown as when she was a puppy.
I will never feed my pets any other way again. The vet bills and shortened lifespans aren't worth it.
When I let go of what I am,
I become what I might be.
