World Oceans Day [1] happens June 8 — and you can celebrate it by watching a new fishy film, tuning into an edge-of-the-seat documentary series, or learning about our beaches.
>> The End Of The Line [2], an environmental documentary about the effects of overfishing narrated by Ted Danson, hits theaters this month. Find a screening happening on World Ocean Day near you [3], or watch it in the theaters starting June 19.
>> The second season of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars [4] shows the fight between eco-activists (or eco terrorists?) and illegal whale hunters (or scientists?), featuring the sometimes-dangerous clashes between the Japanese whaling program and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Tune in to Animal Planet this Friday, June 5 at 9 pm to catch the season premier.
>> Thinking about a dip in the ocean this summer? Enviro-nonprofit Heal the Bay released its annual beach report card [5] for California beaches — and while some are quite clean, others are earning big fat Fs for pollution, along with 22 other beaches. Read the report — then check Heal the Bay’s site [6] closer to when you visit to get the latest grades on the beaches you’re interested in.
