The Greenest Things: From Eco-Bibles to Bonsai Bicycles

>> The Green Bible for god-fearing environmentalists [1] is printed with soy-based inks on FSC-certified paper -- with eco-ish verses highlighted by a forest-green font. Writes Evangelical eco-activist J. Matthew Sleeth in the intro: "creation care is at the very core of our Christian walk."

>> The "greenest museum" is now open. The California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco wows environmentalists and science nerds [2] alike with its "living green roof with native plants, insulation made from recycled blue jeans and a large canopy of solar energy panels." The academy anticipates that the building will soon get a LEED Platinum rating.

>> The greenest bicycle of them all? Craig Calfee in Santa Cruz, Calif., creates bikes from bamboo, grown bonsai-style [3]. Basically, the bamboo's forced to grow in the shape of a bike frame -- which cost $2,700 each, since every one's made to order. "If you grow it in the shape you want it, it's by far the strongest way to get it in the shape you want it," Calfee says.
