In search of Eco-Kitty Litter

I have been in search of eco-friendly kitty litter as part of my 2007 go green resolution.

Now this may seem simple enough, but I have to tell you it is not.  The cats are the easiest part of this...The products...they are a completely different story!

I started with the Swheat Scoop...The wheat version of kitty litter, after all, I had coupons!  The texture was great, the cats liked it, it did not have too bad an odor after heavy use...HOWEVER, it is wheat and when it gets wet it turns to well cement!  I endeavored to make it work and no matter how often I cleaned the box, it was using a paint scraper to get it out of the box...Supposedly this is flushable, but I would not even chance it.

Round 2:  Johnny Cat, after all Whole Foods carries it so it must be eco-friendly.  Again, the cats were no problem, but the urine odor was too much to deal with after scooping.

Round 3:  Pine pellets, you know the ones that break down to sawdust.  Okay this one the cats hated, they used every bath mat I have to let me know of thier dissatisfaction, and the odor was awful! this lasted exactly 2 days

Today I am back to the Arm and Hammer brand.  I will continue my quest for the perfect kitty litter, but I felt this was a good subject for my first foray into the Lime Forums
