Sustainable Food Center (SFC) believes that every person deserves access to fresh, nourishing food. By promoting a vibrant and sustainable local food system and teaching children and adults about eating healthfully, SFC provides long-term solutions to hunger and diet-related diseases. More than 20,000 Central Texans benefit from SFC programs annually.
Programs to volunteer with:
SFC's Community and Youth Gardening program offers the resources and education to enable children and adults in Central Texas to develop skills in food production and organic gardening as well as an understanding of the importance of local food production for the health and well-being of themselves, their families and community, and the environment.
SFC's Farm Marketing program promotes access to fresh, healthy food by making locally-grown produce available in the heart of the city and in locations easily accessible by low-income residents.
The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre™, a nationally recognized cooking and nutrition education program, provides individuals and institutions the resources and knowledge to make lasting dietary and behavioral changes.
