Margy Henderson is a modern-day sound healer. She learned the craft from a shaman in Peru and currently treats clients from her home in Sonoma, CA. She recently explained the concept and goal of the healing modality in the San Francisco Gate’s current series Finding My Religion (previous interviews included a Jain, a former Christian, and a famous Jewbu).
According to Henderson, every system in the body vibrates at a certain frequency (the heartbeat is an obvious example). When any of these frequencies slip out of alignment illness can occur. A sound healer works to retune the frequencies, restoring balance and health.
In a healing session Henderson uses her voice as well as a variety of indigenous instruments like Tibetan bowls, Peruvian whistling vessels, as well as a panpipe made of condor feather quills.
When she’s not working with individual clients, Henderson uses sound as a member of the Threshold Choir, a female group that sings to those with terminal illnesses.
The Sound Healer’s Association can help you find a sound healer near you.
