Reflexology: More than the Feet

Reflexology sits proudly among the healing practices that date back to ancient times. The modality may have existed over 5,000 years ago — it is said that pictographs of reflexology were discovered on the tomb of an important Egyptian doctor found in Saqqara.

While it is tempting to classify reflexology as nothing more than a fancy foot massage, it is actually a complex system of healing. The basic idea is that there are areas in the hands and feet that represent each organ and bodily system. These reflex spots can be manipulated to restore balance and health. Reflexologists emphasize that their practice encompasses the complete spectrum of their clients’ health — treating them mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Reflexology can be used to treat many ailments — from back pain and digestive issues to respiratory and reproductive problems, to anxiety and insomnia. And yes, a reflexology session is one of the more relaxing ways to spend your time. You can find a local reflexolgist here.

Have you had positive results from reflexology? Would you recommend the practice? I’d love to hear from you.

Don't forget the ears!

Auricular therapy, or Ear Reflexology is used by many Reflexologists. In fact those trained in the “Flocco” method of Reflexology incorporate all three maps: hands, feet and ears, into one session. A glorious experience I might add!
