This is the year of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). I can feel it. Last year may have seemed like CAM's big moment with over half of the adult population (62 percent as of 2004) tapping into a complementary or alternative therapy, but 2006 is when those who are CAM-curious will transition into the CAM-confident.
From autogenic training to watsu, alternative health modalities are vast and comprehensive and there is a now a treatment for almost any health condition. Some are more respected — acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. — than others — iridology, gong therapy — but when explored with an open mind and if necessary, a doctor's guidance, many CAM treatments can bring about unexpectedly positive results.
Whether you're in search of a complement to traditional medical treatment or are simply seeking preventative care, the following CAM treatments should be at the top of your 2006 to-do list:
Acupressure: A needle-free form of acupuncture that stimulates specific healing points throughout the body.
Thai Yoga Massage: An incredibly satisfying blend of yoga and traditional massage that uses no oil and requires no undressing (excellent option for those who are both tense and modest).
Aromatherapy: The prevalence of quality organic essential oils makes DIY-aromatherapy easier than ever. Aromatherapy is used to treat complex issues like PMS and post-operative nausea, but it's also as easy as a few drops of lavender on your pillow to beat insomnia and a whiff of peppermint in the morning to encourage alertness.

Interests: Parenting (Jack 5yrs and Owen 3yrs), Human Growth and Development, Evolving Consciousness, Integral Life Practice, Coaching, Change Management, Creativity, and Freedom.
Inspiration: Witnessing my sons discovering the world and themselves, watching someone overcome all odds, listening to someone's deep dark secrets (and telling someone mine), a fully expressed performer, art, the rawness of humanity, and unconditional love.
