Good and bad

I like the idea that more GPs are embracing the idea that children can suffer from mental illness just like adults do. I don't like the idea that they automatically reach for a prescription instead of trying other means first. There is a lot to be said for therapy and exercise. I know if I would have had therapy as a child I might not have held all of my sadness in and wouldn't have had as many issues as I did.

So how do we "fix" our families if that is indeed where the problem lies? I wish everyone would go to therapy especially prior to having children. How about parenting classes, shouldn't we have more of them available? More recovery programs might help too. And then there's always living a healthy lifestyle, that just has to help!

i'm torn

I am torn here.  On the one hand I applaud doctors for trying to help children with a disease that may be genetic and no amount of therapy can help with something that is medical.  But then again, we should not be placing a band-aid on stressful children.  It is unfortunate that many insurance plans do not cover therapy or give very little in the way of reimbursement.  Maybe our healthcare needs to address these issues too.
