Caffeine May Not Kickstart Health
June 24, 2007 - 7:23am
from Los Angeles Times
Compounds in coffee and tea other than caffeine may be responsible for recent evidence that both drinks can fight cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and other afflictions. In fact, caffeine alone can worsen some health conditions.

So that's how it works
by Statuesqueone on June 25, 2007 - 4:05pm
I never knew how caffeine worked but now I do. I had no idea it had anything to do with adenosine. This was very interesting to me especially since my mother, who had quadruple bypass surgery a few years ago says caffeine isn't bad for you. Yeah right, Mom! I don't drink coffee but I do drink green and white tea which doesn't have as much caffeine, hopefully not enough to cause the side effects that coffee does.

which is better
by Vicki_R on June 25, 2007 - 4:27pm
I drink usually one cup a day of caffeinated coffee.  A few years ago, I gave up caffeine because it was making me anxious.  I recently started having one a day, because I do find it helps me to get to the gym and get in a good workout.  I am glad to have this new info and will have to weight the consequences of caffeine vs bettter workout.  Which is better?

cup of joe

I tend to think that most things in moderation is the key.  I would not give up either.  Just modify how much coffee and caffeine you ingest.  Life is about balance, but most of all it is about enjoyment.  Life without a good cup of joe is just not the same.

guilty again.

I do drink a lot of coffee, it is listed as one of my vices in my profile anyway. I too, like Vicki, started drinking a lot of coffee to keep me energized during workout or simply on those sleep deprived days, which come by way too often during college. But I guess it's important to consider the side effects that habits such as these can cause, especially considering the whole irregular sleeping pattern.

It's simply better to just get a good nights sleep and maintain a healthy diet and moderate workout to keep me energized and ultimately, healthy.

No Regrets!

I use to be a heavy caffeine drinker I hardly drink coffee now. The caffeine I use to drink came from 1 cup in the morning and  1 can of soda, that would very because quite often I drink white soda (Sprite,7up, Sierra Mist).  I felt a lot more tired through out the day when I did drink coffee. Felt I would nap more and felt a lot more tired at around 12 noon felt less productive as well. Now that I have quit almost all caffeine and went to a more vegetarian life style and exercise more often I feel a whole lot better. I see no benefits in caffeine it might give you a slight jolt of energy but it only last so long compared to exercise

afternoon headache
by Vicki_R on June 27, 2007 - 10:29am
If you are a coffee drinker, it is more than just the caffeine.  It is the experience of the first brewed cup of joe.  I do like that it gives me some energy, but I just like the taste and experience of a morning cup.  I find when I drink caffeine in the afternoon, I get a headache.  Strange it affects me than.
