The Chesapeake Bay has been on the federal government's "dirty waters" list for more than a decade. Polluted water damages the animals, plants, and overall health of the Bay; makes it unsafe to eat fish and drink from local waters; and hurts the livelihood of watermen and the fishing-related industries that are a critical part of the region's economy.
