Is it bad to burn your yard waste?
Posted by Sawyer on September 7, 2007 - 8:45pm.

I'm just curious, because I have a little fire-pit in the backyard, and it's really easy for me to just burn some of my yard waste. I've done it a few times, because I feel guilty about sending so much waste to the landfill.

But now I'm wondering if burning the waste was emmiting some kind of toxin into the air that wouldn't be good for the planet or my health.

Any thoughts?

I know that many years ago it was banned in several towns and communities.  I think that it depends on what you are burning and possibly if there are any pesticides on the plants or grass.  If your lawn was treated, I am sure that the smoke is going to contain some chemicals that we are all breathing.

not good, any which way

I'm quite sure that burning anything is not good for air quality. And that would include all those people who burn wood for warmth in their stoves.

What about those dura flames?  Growing up my dad used them when we ran out of natural wood.  I wonder what we were inhaling all those years?
