San Francisco does it again!

San Franciscans has outlawed the use of Styrofoam and have pitched a new marijuana policy in the city. All restaurants, vendors, and food providers stand by the legislation, and support the cities decision to out law Styrofoam. As for the doja (marijuana) they are making it the most “Lowest Law Enforcement Priority”. Compared to the new fines on using Styrofoam is a $100 on your first offense and $250 for all those peopled that don’t understand what banned means.

Personally, I like this idea, in fact in many cities across the US they have been banning Styrofoam, and legalizing the possession and use of marijuana among adults. One instance is that in Denver Colorado they pretty much have the same thing, for adults only, 21 and over to be exact, and only aloud to have up to 1 ounce on them. Good ideas and good intentions I think. What is everyone’s perspective on this, for it or against it?

Yay! For San Francisco!

Hmmm, I debate about this kind of stuff with my dad all the time, the whole legalization of marijuana issue. I am for it; I think it is a LOT safer and less harmful then drinking. Did you know that you get the same “high” when you are eating chocolate? Scientists have found out that Chocolate give you the same “high” as the THC in marijuana does. Yeah I could go on and on about what is good and what is bad but I wont, Ill save all my arguments for my father! I do totally approve the banning of the Styrofoam; I think that is a big step! A whole city took a step towards greatness. Its exciting when you hear things like this, a whole city sticking together to get what they want done. How many cities do you know that do that? We need some more example cities in the U.S. or even other countries.

Hate Styrofoam
by Statuesqueone on August 10, 2007 - 7:45pm
Working in a laboratory we receive a lot of Styrofoam and I hate it. There's just nothing I can do with it except throw it away and know that it isn't going to break down for thousands of years. San Francisco needs plenty of kudos for taking this step and hopefully will be a example to other cities to do the same. Wish there was a way to find out how this came about in San Francisco so we can get the same thing here in San Diego.

huge lobbiests

I am in agreement as well.  If is wasn't for the huge lobby that the alcohol companies have, marijuna would have been legalized a long time ago.  I agree that is better than alcohol for your body and you don't get the side affects of a hangover.  I wonder if legalizing drugs would cut down on the violence in selling them.

Texas is stuck on Styrofoam!
by Cowboydavey on August 12, 2007 - 5:10pm

In my job I carry my lunch most of the time. I try to use my glass containers, and carry my own tall cup and flat ware. I have been lately packing a cloth napkin. I do get some looks at times. In one of my account I decided to have lunch in the company cafeteria. They have plates and Styrofoam to go boxes. I gave my order and said for here. He started to put it in a to go box. I said put it on a plate please. He look puzzled, and put it on a plate. I said "I am trying save oil!" I heard a comment in line about a tree-hugger. Later the person that made the comment was in with me in a training session. While in the session I interjected how my company saved over 1.4 million by recycling and look to go Green. The gentleman came up latter and said he was sorry for his remark. In our Mexico plant in the cafeteria every employee from the top dog down to the shipping crew was given a set of flatware and a mug with their name on it, they use these in the company cafeteria. This has save us thousand in paper goods, and is good for the environment. My company has won award from the environmental community and has come up with a new Green Paper. We use very little Styrofoam in packing our parts, and our parts are made to be recycled in which we ship the old part back with the same box and packing material that the new one came in. I feel that Americas have lost site of what is truly cost effective and what good for the environment.

standing up

It is wonderful that you stand up for your beliefs, even when the situation may be awkward.  What does your company do?  How did you decide to do this?  Very proactive.

Very good Question?
by Cowboydavey on August 14, 2007 - 12:12am
We build, maintain data printing systems. The kind that prints checks and credit card bills and other money documents.  180 to 500 prints per-minute and push enough paper to kill a forest. You know that paperless society we were going for. We also have color digital press for magazine production and that type of printing. We also do scanning and archival storage of documents. We are always looking for ways of saving money and we found by going Green we do. We recycle everything we can. Here is a statement from our company. A Greener Office: Our decisions resonate like ripples on water. Wise choices today create a better environment tomorrow. Myself I came to the conclusion that I was throwing my money away, by not reduce and reuse. I have cut my cost by 1/3 in things I had to buy every two weeks. My water use is down, my electrical use is down, and my lifestyle has not diminished. I fact it has improved. The other side of the story I discovered how unhealthy many of the things that we do when we try to "Living the normal life". I get call a "Tree-Hugger" all the time, I just call it smarter living. I don't have all the answers but I am willing to learn. When I have left this plane, the one thing I would like to be remembered for is that he care about life and the world around him.
