Why is wind energy ignored?

Buckminster Fuller said that everyone on 'StarShip Earth' is energy rich, we just have to collect the energy and distribute it equally among the population ... The wind is blowing the trees today, why are we not picking that up?

An yet there doesnt appear to any incentive programs or community projects springing up to build these farms? why not?

Wind in California
by Statuesqueone on July 28, 2007 - 6:45pm
Recently there was a windmill farm installed in Southern California about 50 miles east of downtown San Diego. I was surprised by how much flack it recieved from bird lovers and locals. It seems as if the windmills tend to kill a fair amount of birds when they fly into the blades. The other issue was the unslightliness of it. I personally would rather see windmills on the hill side using natural forces than a power plant using fossil fuels. Why don't these people get it that we are going to run out of power unless we change our ways of thinking? Wind power is a sensible alternative.

I like the windmills!

In that article that you linked us to, I know all about the windmills in Palm Springs! I had always seen the windmills since I was younger. I had never known that they had been around so long until now. I have heard all kinds of mixed comments about them, they mess up the scenery, they are ugly, and they kill too many birds. I honestly think that the birds just need to stop running into them, than everything will be OK. I thought birds were supposed to be smart? I know for a fact that I never minded seeing the windmills. I think they are pretty just all rotating in the same direction and how they are orchestrated like a symphony. I love it, honestly I would rater have some windmills in my way of the scenery rater than not being able to see anything at all.

no bother

I have no problem at all with windmills; I have lived in a lot of places throughout this lifetime and others. These things have been used for centuries, I don’t see the problem with having something to better fuel our world today. Maybe they just need to think of how to work out the kinks from their already made improvements. I don’t have any idea what those improvements could be at the moment, but I will leave it up to the scientists who actually know what they are talking about.

I didn't realize there was such a problem with birds running into them... for some awful reason I find that mildly amusing...
But on the subject, I think wind farms are really beautiful. I saw one in person for the first time this summer as I was travelling cross-country, and I was so amazed at how pretty they were. I'm so used to living in the east, where everything is ugly and industrial. These twirling white pinwheels made me think of the backyard when I was a kid. They seemed really pure. I think we should implement them much more.
