Evils of Salmon Farming.

Browsing through the petition section at Care2 and stumbled upon a very interesting complaint about the evils of salmon farming started by none other than the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform. CAAR elaborates about parasites, diseases and feces that escape salmon farms and the damage it has on other wild sea animals. Interestingly enough, they are industrious enough to come up with a rather intense ad representing their concern, and continue to run it through the New York Times.

I do acknowledge that famed salmon isn’t eco friendly or sustainable, but is it really that evil? What do you guys think?

can't risk not eating fish

I read that the amount of PCB's in farm raised salmon is slight compared to the results of not eating salmon at all which reduces heart disease.  One doctor stated that the risk of getting cancer from eating salmon is very low and that it is more important for people to get their omega fats and fight the other diseases that really will kill  you.  I tend to agree with him.  Everything in moderation.

There's still wild....

I try not to eat farmed fish but as Phil Higgins pointed out in one of his posts to Jessica Harlan's Organis vs. Local vs. Just Really, Really Cheap we shouldn't be eating wild fish at all. After his post I am really confused.

I do want to eat as healthy as possible and I understand that eating fish a couple of times a week is good for my health. But I also want to do what is good for the Earth and all of it's creatures. I am torn but think I will stick with wild for the time being, as I had cancer at a young age so try to avoid chemicals at all costs.

pros and cons
by dancingqueen on June 26, 2007 - 12:08pm
I think we all need to weigh the pros and cons.  Each of us has a different health history and each of us different levels of how green we want ot be.  I feel that eating fish for me is fine as long as I don'f over due it.  The health benefits are great and I enjoy a nice piece of salmon every once in a while.
