Green Funerals?

I was looking up ways to make my holidays or celebrations somewhat greener, afterall I did set up myself to Ditch my  Last supper tradition and start a Green Celebration.  I was a little shocked when I came across this site that specializes in making your funeral as green as they can. I guess the thought of death is just something that I try to avoid, but after giving it thought, it wasn't creepy at all.

So we can be green even after we're not here.... I suppose.  Just thought I'd share the site.

Funny you should mention that.  A few months ago, I too was searching and found a similar site.  It was a topic I never really thought about.  But really, think about how much energy it takes to creamate someone.  I was going to do it, but now I don't know.  Maybe I'm better off buying an organic box and decomposing.

green after death.

Wow this is so creepy. But... after getting past the idea of death it is something we should all consider. I mean I never really thought about how to stay green even after I die.

I always wanted to get cremated though because the thought of getting buried always depressed me but after they told me how bad it was for the environment I reconsidered other alternatives... if that counts at all.

But hey how about green births?

somewhere exotic

I am hoping by the time I need a funeral they will have found a better and healthier way to creamate us.  I would love to be scattered somewhere exotic or in a fabulous city in europe.  I would rather have my family spend the money on traveling to a great place and enjoying themselves, then by wasting it on a reception.

Oh I would like it very much if my ashes were scattered in Mt. Diablo, in northern cali. I do feel that a reception is a waste of money too.

You know

in order to cremate you the crematorium uses millions of hydrocarbon btu's (primarily a light-end hydrocarbon like propane) to burn your bodies hot enough to turn into ash, right?

We don't have a "carbon footprint" so much as we're just huge, walking, talking, living and dying carbon producers.  While you're alive, you exhale CO2.  In death, your body decays and creates CO2 or someone cremates you and uses fossil fuel to burn you, also creating CO2.

It's the circle of life Simba!  :-D

decaying sounds good

Like Vicki R. sais, we should just let ourselves decay and call it a day!  Back to the land.  I wonder if they can compost us?

kindred spirit

A kindred spirit!!  I want my kids to bury me knowing I am going to a better place.  I don't want to be in the ground taking up space.
