Eat Yourself Beautiful
Posted by Vicki_R on January 31, 2007 - 10:20am.
Cosmeceuticals, foods that claim to keep you looking good.  This seems to be the next beauty-food revolution.  A japanese sweetmaker has created a marshmallow with 3,000mg of collagen that claims that eating the sweet as the same benefits of injections but with no pain and in America, Borba Skin Water features a "cultivated bio-vitamin complex" claiming  to remove toxins and improve acne prone skin.  Can we eat ourselves beautiful or is this just another trend of the minute.  We all know certain foods have nutritional and healing qualities.  But can these same foods translate into helping us when used in beauty products.

The idea isn't so crazy.  I often make a facemask out of avocados and other yummy treats to nurish my skin, and who hasn't heard of cold potato or cucumber slices to get rid of puffy eyes?  Citrus tastes good and the smells alone are enough to revitalize anyone

And greasy foods do make you more prone to acne (or blimishes at least)....makes me think twice about those fries.  Makes sense that not eating it would help prevent poor skin (as well as bigger waistlines)..

Fresh produce might not be as fancy as a collagen amped marshmallow, but at least it's easier to come by.

I think the problem may be that using fresh products is great, but how many of these products have a 100% of the food they are claiming helps.  I wonder if something gets lost when you only take the extracts from a food and not the entire whole food in its natural state?

...which is why I make my beauty treatments myself, with whole, unprocessed, unvoodoo-ed produce

Funny, just last friday, LIME posted a blog on how drinking alcoholic fruity drinks actually are good for you because of the ethanol produced in the alcohol process.  See drinking your fruits can be good for you. Check it out. you.http://www.lime.com/food/news_feed/10788/fruity_cocktail_counts_as_health_food_study
