Seasonal Affective Disorder
Posted by sagartland on September 19, 2007 - 9:44pm.

Yes there are so many drugs out there to treat someone with a temporary bout of depression that occurs every fall... but I don't want to introduce chemicals to my body. Right now, I'm sticking to the basics, tons of exercise and healthy eating. I'm hoping to start light therapy.

But what else is out there? Does anyone have any experience with supplements or particular activities that combat the chemical imbalances of the changing seasons?

Thank you!

_cooking_oil_in_cars...

Tried to do some research on the subject.  Seems like you are doing all that they said you should.  This site had some natural remedies including mustard seed and st. johns wart as well as some nutritional advice.  Diet can help if you cut out refined sugars and carbs.  Give it a read and let me know if it works.

Hi,

I stumbled onto your post and since I work for a company that sells light therapy devices I thought I'd provide this info...  Always best not to use drugs...  I hope it helps!

Another solution is to spend time outside during the day or use a solar product like solar lights to get more light exposure. http://www.dasolar.com

Moderate intensity exercise such as walking has been shown to have pronounced effects in boosting moods by increasing the production of endorphins and neurotransmitters such as Seratonin and Dopamine, necessary in the prevention of SAD. In fact many physicians feel that it SAD is due in part to a drop in levels of Seratonin.
