Colon Cleansing Herbs
Posted by Hoobastank on September 7, 2007 - 3:50pm.

hi.

I noticed that people here are talking about detox issues. I was wondering if any one here has ever done a colon cleanse?  if so, which product did you try and do you think it helped?

Lately I've been doing alot of research about colon cleansing and the different products and I've found a couple of ones that I'm interested in. One of my biggest concerns is the safety of product and the trust factor from the company.

I was checking out a couple of colon cleansing reviews sites and they mentioned that you should be careful taking certain herbs that are commonly used in colon cleansing prodcuts - such as Senna & Cascara Sagrada. From what I've read, these herbs have been known to cause bowel dependancy and other digestive problems if used for longer than 7 days... and some of these products are 30-90 days!!!

Can someone please tell me something about colon cleansing? thank you.

LIME has posted many articles and forums on the subject.  Click on above and you can read up on all the different aspects of it.  Many people have posted that they have done it and swear by it.  I have not tried it myself for the same concerns you have.  Keep me posted and hope this helps.

Questionable herbs
by Leto on September 7, 2007 - 5:10pm
Hi hooba I have taken a couple of colon cleansing products. I tried colonix, and it was good, but it was a long cleanse. It took about three months of drinking fiber shakes & laxative teas. It wasn't very pleasant, but I felt better afterwards. However, I will say that I often had headaches and was frequently constipated during the cleanse. And, yes. Senna is in colonix. Senna is basically a natural laxative, but like you mentioned. It can cause different problems if you take it excessively. If you have certain (and common) digestive issues, such as Hemorrhoids or Diverticulitis, then you should only take Senna with doctor consultation. It can have dire consequences if it's abused. I also tried a product called oxypowder, which is an oxygen colon cleansing product. So it was different than colonix, because you didn't have to mix any laxative teas or shakes. It only lasts 7 days and was really easy to take. Overall, I liked oxypowder better, because I never got any side effects like I did with colonix. But they are both good products, and I don't think you would go wrong with either one.

also worried about colon cleansing herbs
by Sawyer on September 7, 2007 - 9:53pm

I have tried oxypowder, but never colonix. I was like you, kinda worried about the herbs and the long-term side effects that I've heard about. So I didn't try it.

I know that Oxypowder doesn't contain any questionable herbs, so I gave it a shot. It was pretty simple. I think it worked well. The cool thing about it, is that you don't have to mix any teas or drinks, because I'm not good at drinking weird stuff.

Also, as for the trust factor. The makers of Oxypowder just won the 2007 Award of Excellance from the Better Business Bureau. Which is something I don't think any other colon cleansing company has won... i may be wrong on that, though.

I would recommend Oxypowder, but I would also recommend you do the research on all of the products before you make any decision.

Here's a link to Oxypowder. Good Luck.

Oxy-Powder's effect on the body helps to loosen intestinal build up which aids in the release of unwanted waste materials and toxic substances that may be present. It does not affect the friendly bacteria which are needed for proper digestive and intestinal health, however.

how did you feel

How do you think it helped  your body?  Did you see all sorst of weird stuff coming out of you?   I have heard that is very common when doing a cleansing.

I felt better
by Sawyer on September 8, 2007 - 8:36pm

I felt better afterwards. I did feel like I had a little more energy, but not as much as everyone makes it seem. The one thing that I noticed, is that I would have an urge to 'go' about an hour or so after I ate every meal. Which wasn't happening before, because I would be lucky to have one bm a day, prior to using oxypowder.

I didn't really see any weird creatures come out. With Colonix, you see these long poop-ropes, but with oxypowder, it's different. Oxypowder oxidizes the fecal matter, so it comes out in a soft or liquedy form, but the smell is really strong. Whereas colonix uses an herb called psyllium, which bulks up, and comes out in long, alien-like ropes. Thats what you see on Colonix's website.

I've recently started to hear more and more people are using colon cleansers. Like you guys, I have always worried about the herbs and the side effects associated with them. I looked over that colon cleansing site and it looks like a legit product. I think I may look into trying it...

Colon Cleansing with Oxy-Powder
by lizblaze on September 10, 2007 - 12:50pm
I've been taking Oxy-Powder for almost a year now and in my opinion this is the safest and most effective colon cleansing product out there. It's all natural and only employs 3 main ingredients: Ozonated magnesium oxides, Natural Citric Acid, and Organic Germanium-132. If you take the time to view the ingredients of other colon cleansers you will see that they contain 10 up to 20 different ingredients and some of them contain 2-3 harmful ingredients.

good info
by Hoobastank on September 10, 2007 - 2:59pm

wow. thanks for the responses everyone.

One of the products I was interested in was oxipowder, so I'm glad you guys mentioned that one. I was also looking at one called bowtrol, but after doing more research, it has senna and cascara sagrada in the formula... which are two of the questionable herbs mentioned.

I'm still not sure what to do, but I am definetenly looking more into Oxypowder. The Better Business Award is also important to me.

Thanks everyone!!

Have you tried any natural cleansers like hot water with lemon each morning to help you or drinking ginger tea to help with digestion?  What is your incentive to use a colon cleanser?

Natural colon cleansing

Herbs are considered to be the best herbs for cleansing the colon, it is important to understand the fact that, for staying healthy, an individual needs to do the cleansing of the colon more than one time itself. It needs to be ensured by the individual that he is having a healthy lifestyle, which would mean a well-balanced and a healthy diet, which is rich in vegetables and fruits.

One should not mess with
by eapoosmama on January 4, 2009 - 11:15pm

One should not mess with the natural balance of the colon.

If you must feel like your needing to cleanse please research a hollistic type herbal approach.

Messing with the pre and pro's is a bad thing to do with your health. And that is exactly what a cleanse does - disrupts.

Have I ever done a cleanse? -- Yes along with multiple colonoscopies and ileoscopies.

The colon is proactive in its own care if you send it the proper things in the first place.

Back away from the cleanse is my reply.

Yes, our colon is proactive. It carries out various functions inorder to keep itself fit and healthy. But we need to take care of certain things which keep our colon clean and healthy.
