The list of superfoods contains only 33 items/categories. Only ten of these superfoods are the superstars of all time. As I report on the top ten I will make an effort to really go into why they are the celebs of all foods past and present. For now I will go in alphabetical order of what we all should eat more of and I will include at least one healthy recipe for each superfood. But first a hint of some of the benefits of eating superfoods everyday:

1) Prevent or reduce inflammation

2) Help regulate metabolism and burn body fat

3) Lower total cholesterol

4) Lower blood pressure

Superfood number #1 is Apples:

Apples are a powerful source of antioxidants, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and vitamin C, as well as good source of fiber, and potassium. There are only 47 calories in an average sized apple. The secret behind the super antioxidant capacity of the apple is its skin. The apple skin alone provides two to six times the antioxidant activity of the apple flesh alone.

There are many different varieties of apples, and each of these varieties has their own unique concentration and types of polyphenols, because of this, it is important to eat a wide variety of apples to ensure that a balance of all of these antioxidant agents is maintained.

Thanks for the recipe.  Sounds delicious.  I did not know that different apples contain different anitoxidants.  I always seem to eat granny smiths or macs.

One a day no more :(

I used to eat an apple a day and I truly believed it made be feel better. Unfortunately I got braces a couple of years ago and haven't been able to eat one since. I even tried peeling it and cutting it into small bites. No go, got stuck all over the place! Six more months and I will be back to eating an apple a day, if not two!
