Summertime is great for being outdoors, but with that comes blazing sun, mountain trails tempting waters, bug bites, blisters and sunburn, just to name a few.  What summertime ailments or secrets do you have for staying healthy this summer?

Usual remedy not working for me
by Statuesqueone on July 5, 2007 - 9:47pm
I usually am pretty good about relieving the itch from bug bites by using hot compresses but not this time. When I was starting my compost a couple of weeks ago I got bit 11 times behind my knee. I have been miserable ever since. I had to resort to topical aids, Cortizone and Benadryl which bring it down to an almost tolerable itch. At night I have to take Benadry orally just to be able to sleep. Unless I find something soon that works I'm going to have to call my doctor! Any suggestions for some nasty bug bites?

Have you tried any of the Natural remedies that lime posted a while back for bug bites?

I'm bookmarking that article to my google so I can have access to it at all times now that summer is truly here, those darn mosquitos have a thing for me, they're all over me, eugh.

bug balms

Heard there is a paste you can make out of baking soda and water.  The combo can neutralize the bug's venom. Also they day that a drop of lavender essential oil applied to the bite can take the itch out of the sting almost right away.  Can't hurt to give it try!  Hope this helps.

Tea Tree Oil

I have never tried it but a friend of mine uses tea tree oil to help with mosquito bites.  She says that it works wonders.  It also has a number of other uses for skin and hair care.  I think it might be something to try out.

where can I find

I just read in one of LIMES forums on toilet cleaning, that it helps with toilet bowl smells as well.  Where do you find this oil?  Can I buy it in Whole Foods?

I would think that you could find it at Whole Foods but I have never actually looked there.  I'm not sure if you are near a Trader Joe's but they also carry it.  I've read that it also works well when cleaning the bathroom shower and bath tub.  It has so many great uses!
