100% Soy Candles
Posted by Aquil Knight on February 10, 2008 - 3:13pm.

Do you have candles in your home? If they are not 100% soy or an all natural wax then you need to know this. Candles are made from petroleum. It is the sludge that is left over from the refinement process. Industrial bleach is added to light it's color. Other chemicals are added so that the candle will hold the fragrance. Do you get headaches when you light candles or are you allergic to them. It is the chemicals from the candle that are being burned which in case are hazardous to your home and world environment. The black soot ring around the jar that you see are the same stuff that you breathe into your lungs. Some of the chemical are carcinogenic.

Soy wax candles last upto 50% longer, the fragrance last throughout the entire candle, they burn evenly and completely, they clean up with soap and hot water, they support the American Farmer not the oil industry, soy is a renewable source, no soot.

You are entirely right about conventional candles! If you're gonna go the way of soy, a couple of other things to consider looking for are non-GMO soybeans and natural fragrances. My favorites right now come from Nomine (nominesoycandls.com). But just opting for soy over paraffin is a much wiser decision (for your health and the atmosphere).
