(Non-green) Apartment Living... (Help!)
Posted by lianaclaire on September 15, 2007 - 8:47pm.

Okay, so my husband and I are moving into an apartment. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but we've been living in a duplex that gave us "creative control" so to speak. I was able to paint the walls with low-VOC paint, choose greener carpet, etc etc etc.

But now we're moving into an apartment where those choices are already made for us & they're most likely not the greenest. While it's a wonderful & gorgeous apartment, I'm still left to think....

How can I make it as green as possible (without violating our lease)? The walls are already painted, the carpet's already laid (and it's already fumigated... good and bad...). Should I focus instead on the positives that I can control, like what I bring into our new place? Open the windows and let in fresh air as much as possible? What do YOU do?

Thanks!!

great tips
by Vicki_R on September 16, 2007 - 7:06am

I just looked at these links and they are awesome tips.  I even bookmarked this site for future use.  I like the fact that it is easy to use and the tips are simple ones.

I think that for you, the tips make sense.  I would try and decorate using green products and keep what I could control as natural as possible.  Maybe in the future, when the apartment needs painting, you could convince your landlord to use low VOC paint.  I know when I lived in the city, my landlord would periodically paint my apartment and update the appiances.  It would save them money too.

Green it up!

House plants are a great way to keep the air clean in your apartment and make it look like a home, so stock up on plants! Also, install things yourself where you are allowed, aka low flow faucets and efficient light bulbs. Best of luck!

Make your property green
by Moly on July 17, 2009 - 2:55am

Make your property green and not only green colored. You can make it energy efficient with CFLs, use beautiful plants, try to allow fresh air into the property. You can also repaint it as per your wishes after a reasonable time span. You should not face any objections to this. And if you are not allowed to live as you wish to you can try some good home products for a home of your choice.
