Booze You Can Use

Drinks at your local bar that is really good for you, not just for your minds sake, but for your body as well.  While reading Men’s Health I came across an article that said many alcohol purveyors are spiking their ware with nutraceutical ingredients such as green tea and ginseng.   One nutritional scientist said that “they might lessen the harm alcohol can do”. Vodka with green tea, pomegranate liqueur and organic beer with B vitamins.  Is this a gimmick or could you really get healthy while drinking your favorite cocktail?  Are we taking things too far and are companies jumping on the green bandwagon?

Alcohol is alcohol

I equate this to "lite" beer. Remember how it was suppose to be so much better for us because it was so low in calories? In my opinion alcohol is alcohol and will still do damage to our cells. It's nice that there might be some good that comes out of drinking alcohol by adding nutraceutical ingrediants but moderation is still the key to smart drinking. Now, where do I get pomegranate liqueur?

It's really wonderful- bought it on a whim last week. I made cocktails that are sweet but really tasty:

1 oz PAMA

1 oz vanilla vodka

2 oz guava juice (bought in the Spanish section of the grocer)

splash of grenadine

Put in shaker w/ ice, shake and pour into a martini glass. YUM!!

The PAMA website also has recipes.

Beer + Vitamins = Good...

What happens when we add vitamins to oil? I guess it would be like supplements for the planet, right?

Would you accept that story?....

marketing ploy

It sounds like it is just a marketing ploy.  It seems everything is claiming to have antioxidants in it.  The Capri Sun drinks are now claiming to have antioxidants in it to.  It's just the latest craze, but if it makes you feel better about tying one on, then great.

Might as well

Why not have "healthy" alcohol? As long as it remains legal we might as well get the most out of it as possible. Just wondering if the alcohol doesn't diminsh some of the nutrients? Who is over seeing the validity of the health claims? The USDA or ATF?

I'm willing to give it a try but I don't want to pay extra for something that I'm not sure is really going to work.

what about vitamin drinks
by Vicki_R on August 11, 2007 - 12:51pm
That is a really good question.  I don't know who is overseeing the legality of it.  Are any of the health drinks that claim to have vitamins in it regulated.  I see so many people drinking that vitamin water and I just think that is such a marketing ploy.
