How do we stop Bottled Water?

Who let Coke, Pepsi and Nestle bottle and sell our water supply? Bottled water did 100 billion in sales worldwide in 2006... This is wrong for fso many reasons, not the least of which is the pollution and plastics involved.

" target="_blank">Fuel Ghoul explains how the bottled water industry proifited from two myths:

1. Bottled water is healthier then tap water.

2. Bottled water is safer than tap water.

But the big question remains, HOW DO WE STOP THEM?

What can we spread the word that bottled water is poisoning the planet? How can we use social networks like Lime and Tree Hugger to legislate change?

decrease in sales..?

I think that you bring up a very important topic that needs to be opened for discussion! Well personally I think that bottled water is a waste of time and money. It is destroying our earth by all the plastics not getting disposed of in the right manner. Why doesn’t everyone just go out and but a water filtration system and buy a water bottle? You know how much that would save and protect things!?! It will help everyone and everything in one simple step. I don’t know how to stop it completely though, I think that they would only stop selling it if their sales went down dramatically. Which I doubt will ever happen, because so many people rely on their bottled water. We live in an obese society we do everything the easy way, which I think is ridiculous, but I have to admit it is easier to go buy a water bottle rather than being logical. Why can’t all these people just take that little extra step to make a difference?

Stop buying bottled H2O
by Ecobabe on August 2, 2007 - 9:48pm
I know that I am now done buying bottled water. I am going to place my order for the reusable water bottles from Sunrider (saw it here on Lime and checked out the web site) and fill them up from my refrigerator that has a filter. If more people would just stop buying bottled water the companies would stop producing it. Simple supply and demand economics.

Need to buy one...
by taradawn on August 3, 2007 - 2:48pm
I buy bottled water in order to drink more water when I'm out... but really what I should do is buy a reusable one. On the up-side, though, I do wash and reuse my water bottles that I do buy and keep them in the fridge so I always have one on the go. Or I recycle them. I really should invest in a reusable one, though.

Speak Up and don’t drown!

There are times I buy bottled water. Just because our tap water sometimes just sucks![We are a co-op water company, and still working on the systems.] However, now that I have my own counter top filtration system my water has improved. The animals will drink it now. Bottled water started as a trend, not as a health concern. I other countries you have to drink bottle water because theirs is not up to the same standards.  One of the best ways is do the math on the cost of what a person is spending pre-month on bottled water. The other is show what the impact on the environment. How much oil would it take to take to make the plastic bottles…ect!  I will still buy water at times but I use refillable bottles myself. Just speak up and let everyone know the facts.

Totally Agree!

I completely agree with this post.  We used to buy a case of bottled water every week.  We recycled the bottles, but jeez!  About a year ago we bought some water bottles and now can't figure out why we ever thought we needed bottled water?!

be the change that you seek.  one person at a time, we can be the difference.  my really fancy alternative bottle attracts lots of attention and gives me a reason to raise awareness.

but i have a question, will i find out that the aluminum water bottle is not good for the planet too!
just when i get the whole paper or plastic thing down, i find myself pondering once again.......

What a Rip!

I was in the BIG "W" and they have put in one of those U-Fill water centers @ .39 per pound. They sold gallon containers and five gallon ones for you to fill. People were lined up to buy this water. Water by the pound, what next? It still will not improve the taste, because our local lakes are full now and they are still turning over. Tap water has the taste of dirt even with a filter system. On the label of a bottle of water Contains: Purified Water, Calcium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Sulfate. "PURIFIED WATER" Enhanced with Minerals for Taste. The best water I have ever tasted was out of the side of a mountain in Tennessee. I think with modern water processing we have forgot what water really taste like. There will be times I will still buy bottled water, that will be rare.
