Tinfoil Unwrapped

So its summertime and we all are probably going to do a bit of grilling.  That got me thinking about the foil I use.  Can I recycle it like cans? The answer is a resounding yes.  Aluminum foil is highly recyclable.  It is one of the few products that can be recycled over and over again.  Recyclable foil requires only 5% of the energy to make versus regular aluminum foil which uses 95%. I also found out that two pounds of aluminum creates more than 300 ft of household aluminum foil.  Therefore, when we use aluminum foil, you are using a product that saves larger quantities of transport energy, due to the lightness of the material, and when you’re done, you can recycle it again! You just have to rinse the foodstuff off the foil first and then place it in your bin. In doing my homework, I found a company called Greenfeet that sells recycled aluminum foil for just $3.99. Just go to their site www.Greenfeet.com and they’ll ship it right to your home. This all sounds well and good, but has anyone actually used recycled foil or recycled their used foil?

Always recycled

Glad to hear you did your homework for us, thank you. I have always put my aluminum foil in the recycle bin, even the smallest of pieces. I didn't know that about how easy it is to recycle, wish more products were that easy. Maybe we can just make more things out of aluminum foil? Be nice to replace a lot of plastic products with aluminum.

400 years

Actually, alumninum is the only thing that can be recycled and recyled.  You are right when you say we should make more things out of aluminum.  Plastic takes like 400 years to biodegrade.  I don't know why we don't put more things in tin.

I recycled all the foil from our last family party. It was Chili and a potatoe bar, so there were 12 pieces of foil from 12 potatoes. Our town has a recycling center that takes all of your aluminum scrap and pays $.40 per #. Cans pay $.60 per #. Before Iraq you only got $.30.

Glad to hear that you are earning some extra cash as well.  I wonder if my town has something like that.  I'll  have to check it out.

I never thought of recycling foil, but I'll have to keep that in mind. The only thing is I'd find it hard to rinse the food off of all of it. Any easily-cleaned foil I'll definitely stick in the bin, though. Thanks for the tip!
