My Scale!!!
Posted by dancingqueen on May 4, 2007 - 12:13pm.
I am ditching my scale!!! I refuse to live my life by a number.  I will try and live a healthy lifestyle and workout.  I want my body to be strong so I can do all that I want to do as I get older.  I want to have a good day regardless of whether I can get in those darn hip jeans or not.

Way to go

I went on a weight-loss program before I got pregnant (at my OB's advice) and never even had a scale at the house. There was one at the yoga studio, which was a big incentive for me to go every week. My girlfriends, who were also dieting at the time, had digital scales at home that even broke down the pounds into half-pounds and more. I thought it was too much to wake up every day and have a number to go around and think about in association with my weight. By the way, I did lose about 30 pounds on that diet (weightwatchers.com) and had a super-quick delivery -- in at 6 a.m., delivered at 8:37 a.m. Now I'm on back on the diet again trying to lose the pregnancy pounds.

You've made a good decision. Scales are distractions and can get you off track. Focus on creating a healthier, lighter body, not one that's always tagged by a weight.

feeling stronger through exercise

I think I have an internal scale anyway.  Lately, I have been going to the gym a lot and really making an effort.  I have notices that I feel tighter and stronger.  It helps to free my mind about every little thing I eat.  Exercising is definitely making me feel more comfortable with my body again.

In tune

I weigh myself once a month and not necessarily because I am obessed with my weight (I'm actually underweight for my height..I'm 6 foot). I just like knowing what's going on with my body and knowing how much I weigh tells me that what I'm doing, diet and exercise wise, is working or not.

indeed.

Recently I've been taking the habit of the gym too, and as much as I'm advised to leave the scale alone, I keep at it. I do think, however, that it's never the best thing to do. It really does distract me and it can discourage you for false reasons, for example I've known a couple of friends who gain a pound or so every once in a while and they make a big fuss about it when, really, it's probably just muscle that they're gaining.

It does help to weigh yourself every now and then though. I say at least once a month would be healthy.

lets be honest girls

I find that I know my body so well by now that I really don't need the scale.  Let's be honest, don't we girls know when we have put on a few pounds and if so if they are muscle weight or not.  I can tell within a pound or so what the scale is going to say.  Seeing it in black doesn't do me anygood.  It always seems like something hanging over my head-do that is why I am ditching it.
