That is a really good question. I realize now that I need to tap into that playfulness more often. My kids just have fun doing the darndest things like rolling in the grass.
I guess this past winter when my husband and I went snowmobiling in CO. I just went crazy out in the snow and enjoyed the wind on my face. It was GREAT!!!
I am on vacation today, and it's snowing like crazy outside. My fiance and I where walking around Philadelphia, and all of a sudden I had the urge to initiate a snowball fight, don't know where it came from, but it turned out to be so much fun, and ended up with us both covered head to toe with snow...just so much fun, I fealt like a kid again...amazing coincidence that you posted this topic!
What do you think it is about snow that seems to make us feel like a kid again? It must be all those fond memories playing outside and coming home to hot cocoa and marshmellows.
My kids were out this morning sleding and I had such an urge to join them. Freedom and abandonment! Wonderful feelings!!!!
Well I met an old friend from school, that also is a widower. I invited him to come to the farm for the weekend. We did things I had forgotten about. We cook on a campfire, played board games. We went bank fishing with cane poles. {Didn't catch anything!}
Ever since I was a kid I've always loved making character voices. I find it funny to do the Sesame Street characters for my kids and my nieces and nephews.
I was always a bike riding kind of kid so when my kids get out on their bikes I crank up the motorcycle and putt around in the street with them. It's fun for all and I get to practice the all important art of riding Slow.

Sounds like you still are. Do you feel there is something liberating when you ride your bike? ( I hope you wear a helmut). A sense of abandonment?
Whenever I do something playful, it usually involves that feeling. Like I just don't care. I want to be free. What does that say about our childhood and what we connect to it?
Yeah I have a 3/4 helmet that I wear all the time, gloves for the hands, and if I'm leaving my street I get out the overclothing. It's definitely a way to get back to that wind in the face feeling from my childhood without killing my butt on a bicycle seat. My shadow also gets 52 mpg!
I don't guess I've ever decided that "I'm old" yet either. If the kids are playing I get out there and play with them. I don't think I'd go as far as being "scary old guy" at the rock concert, but I definitely love playing with my kids. I guess I'll keep doing it until my body says, "not gonna doit," but until then I'm good.

I had a snowball fight yesterday with my youngest daughter.. we rolled down the hill together and made snow angels... my inner child and my youngest child... what a good pair.
Acting young keeps us young. It's wonderful to watch my boys view things for the first time. My youngest has such an open mind and I love to see the excitement on his face. You forget what it is like.
I've recently enrolled in a Norweigian class (who knows why, I have no plans to visit Norway anytime soon...I just like languages!) filled with students over the age of 50.
How truly wonderful!
I've always told my senior friends they will never be old until they stop learning, and now I finally have validation. One of my favorite classmates has just gone back to school, gotten his real estate license, is taking Norweigian, and he tells me he feels younger than ever! He won't tell me how old he is, just "really damn old."
As a youngster myself, I just go to the park and play baseball with the kids, or start a hula hoop competition with the neighborhood girls.
My kids were off from school last week for spring vacation. They are 6 & 9. We saw three movies in 5 days and it was great. We bought candy (yes, non-organic) and I brought my own popcorn. It was great to just relax, and let the blackness of the theatre and the movie take me away. No deadlines or things that had to be done. Just relaxing with my boys.
With the Nor-easter here, it was a good time to bake cookies and watch some movies. We stayed inside all day in our pajamas and just vegged. How great!!!
