Normal?
Posted by Cowboydavey on July 2, 2007 - 11:02pm.

What is normal? Is normal what the status quo of what is current social trends? Is normal, is how we view and live our own life? If we step back and view or life would we say it is normal? Taking a path that is more natural, organic and nonconforming the first step in becoming truly normality? Normal >adjective conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected

What is normal?

Everyone can be normal....

I think that now in our day and time, everyone, to a certain degree is normal. In our country we have many different types of religons, cultures, and race's. Our society has changed so much that we have a more open outlook on what is defined as normal.  Being a little different is okay, and it might now be "typical, usual or expected" (even if we dont know it).

At the end of the day I think "normal" is defined by how we feel about ourselves. If we feel content and happy about who we are, why is that not normal?

What feels normal.

Well if normal is conforming to a standard and being typical or usual, I certainly don't view my life as normal. I never could define myself as "belonging to the norm" because I suppose I don't always follow the rules as to what way we should dress, act, or think even. I always felt it was important to think for myself but also consider those around me and try to please anyone I hold dearly.

I guess what would be normal would be that; to simply be who you are, what feels normal and natural to you. But then again the word has transitioned into meaning something else, many people feel that in order to be normal they must conform to what others, particularly the majority, want.

I like what you said about be "natural".  That word appeals to me more than normal does.  However, it is hard to accept people for being who they are and content within themselves.  If someone doesn't go with the flow, and beat to their own drummer, why do we always want to change them.  I have a son who is unique and is very happy with himself.  He is a bit unconventional at times and I really have to take a minute sometimes to appreciate who he is and the fact that conforming to normalcy is difficult.

Conforming to normalcy is difficult! I think we're getting to a point where we're accepting uniqueness though. I do think that being normal should mean doing what feels natural to you. That is what it truly means afterall, I think.

I think that it is easier to be yourself than it was when I was growing up. Society seems to accept a much wider range of behaviors, dress and expression.  Being normal can be so boring and uniquiness is much more appreciated in todays age as well as accepted.

Being free

I saw this on a bumper sticker today. "Being free in America means being able to be unpopular". I think that says it all.
