Nutrition Science Has Worsened Americans’ Diets

from The New York Times
The Western diet's pronounced move toward nutritionism—a focus on single nutrients rather than whole foods—corresponds with higher rates of obesity and disease. Not coincidentally, this cultural shift dates to a political maneuver 30 years ago.

Hard to Digest
by Vicki_R on January 29, 2007 - 10:12am
This article was hard to digest.  There are so many factors that play into the relationship between food and health.  The article touched on the complexity of trying to pinpoint a precise formula for how we can derive the most out of our diet.  What really struck me was how each of us as individuals need very different things. How each person processes their food and the chemical make-up of their body can influence even the best medical advice. Another question I had was if we buy locally grown products and support our local farmers, the produce available will also dictate what we our diets look like and will differ from state to state. IThe article makes us really think and will continue to spark much need discussion. I found this article in LIME helpful for resources on this confusing topic. http://www.lime.com/glossary/nutritional_supplements
