Hoodia Dieting Fever Takes Toll on Endangered Plant

Hoodia gordonii is no beauty, but this humble plant is Africa's latest cash crop, priced at $40 an ounce because of its effectiveness as a dieting aid. The explosion of interest, while a boon for harvesters, has put enormous pressure on the plant, an endangered species.
